Two convicted of benefit fraud at Newtownards court - 09 June 2008
Two women were today convicted at Newtownards Magistrates’ Court for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.
Carole Ross (50) of Warren Grove, Belfast claimed Income Support totalling £2,277 while failing to declare she was living with a partner. She was given a 12 month conditional discharge.
Janet Taylor (42) of Kenmore Park, Dundonald claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £11,441 while failing to declare she was working. She was given 60 hours community service.
Both are also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
This brings to 186 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
