Three convicted of benefit fraud at Londonderry court - 19 November 2009

Three people were convicted at Londonderry Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.
A 29 year old Londonderry man was fined £300 and ordered to pay court costs of £40 for wrongful encashment of Jobseekers Allowance totalling £102.
A 34 year old Londonderry man was fined £75 and ordered to pay court costs of £37 for wrongful encashment of Jobseekers Allowance totalling £107.
A 52 year old LOndonderry woman was given a 12 month conditional discharge on each offence and ordered to pay court costs of £58 for failing to declare employment while claiming Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £2,662.
All are required to repay the money they wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
This brings to 391 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
