Newry woman convicted of benefit fraud - 10 April 2008

A woman was convicted at Newry Magistrates’ Court yesterday for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.
Gabrielle Carlisle (46), of Bettys Hill Road, Ballyholland, Newry, claimed Income Support totalling £21,255 while failing to declare she had capital. She was given a four month prison sentence suspended for four years.
Mrs Carlisle will also have to repay the money she wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
This brings to 112 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
