Millisle man convicted of benefit fraud - 14 May 2008

A man was convicted at Newtownards Magistrates’ Court on 12 May for claiming benefits he was not entitled to.
Thomas Campbell (59), of Ballymacruise Close, Millisle, claimed Housing Benefit of £15,798 while failing to declare he had capital. He was given a one month prison sentence suspended for one year and ordered to pay £1,000 restitution.
He will also have to repay the money he wrongfully obtained.
This brings to 152 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
