Maghera woman convicted of benefit fraud - 02 June 2008

A woman was convicted at Magherafelt Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

Mary McMullan (49), of Sunnyside Park, Maghera, claimed Housing Benefit, Income Support and Jobseekers Allowance totaling £6,115 while failing to declare she had capital. She was fined £300 and ordered to pay court costs of £76.

She will also have to repay the money she wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 176 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
