Belfast woman convicted of £35,000 benefit fraud - 16 May 2008

A woman was convicted at Belfast Crown Court on 14 May for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.
Kathleen Meenan (43), of Monagh Road, Belfast, claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totaling £35,275 while failing to declare she had capital. She was given a twelve month prison sentence suspended for twelve months and will also have to repay the money she wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
This brings to 153 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
